There are reputable companies which specialise in managing the rental of good holiday homes and cottages, of various sizes, on the Aughrus Peninsula and elsewhere in Connemara and indeed in Ireland. It's often convenient to identify the holiday home that would best suit you, and to book/pay for it, via a rental company.

Of course, there are also holiday homes available for rent on the Peninsula which are rented to holiday-makers via a direct arrangement with the owner of the house or cottage.

Below, we provide:

1). Information and contact details of holiday homes managed directly by their owners, with links to their own websites where one exists; and...

2). ...Some of the holiday home rental companies (and links to their sites) which offer homes on the Peninsula - around Cleggan, Claddaghduff, Aughrus and Omey Island.

Please note that inclusion of any company or holiday home on this site does not provide you with any guarantees of quality, etc - though we do believe that all of the companies and holiday homes are of fine quality, and will meet your needs. But it's up to you to confirm that the holiday home is the one you want!

If you find the accommodation you were looking for, on this website, do let us know. And, more importantly, please do tell the person whose service you are using as a result. THANKS!

Norah's Cottage

This is a beautifully maintained and beautifully situated house, right beside Omey Strand, on 12 acres - and with lovely views across the Strand to Omey Island, and the beach right by your doorstep.  Just look at the photo below, and imagine waking up every day to that gorgeous view!

Once upon a time, this was a small cottage, but it has been carefully extended and restored, with great attention paid to every detail, and providing the perfect location to spend your holidays. The rooms are spacious and well appointed, and the ambience is all about style, relaxation and comfort.  What more could you want?

Norah's Cottage is the last house on Strand Road.  It's as close to the Strand as you could get, yet it's an easy stroll to Claddaghduff village and Sweeney's shop/PO and Sweeney's Strand Bar.

Cleggan Farm Cottages

Opposite Cleggan village, on the other side of Cleggan Bay (easily reached along the causeway road running between the head of the Bay and a freshwater lake), is Cleggan Head. On Cleggan Head, as part of the old stone complex which at one time formed dwellings and other buildings for the farm (and some of it still does, for it's a working farm), are Cleggan Farm Cottages.

The photos above and below come from Cleggan Farm Cottages' own website

The setting is gorgeous, and the cottages themselves are old-world charm, though comfortable and tastefully furnished, and managed with great attention to detail (and friendliness) by Josephine and Greg White Yule. There are six cottages in all, each one named after a bird or an animal - "Wrens", "Otters", "Foxes", "Badgers", "Herons", and "Mallards" (left). One of these will be your comfortable holiday home in this wonderful part of Cleggan.

Click here to read all about Cleggan Head and farm, on this website; and click here to reach the Cleggan Farm Cottages' own website - or alternatively, contact them at

Greg and Jo are accomplished musicians: Greg a demon on guitar and blues and rock singing, and Jo on sax.  Greg operates a fabulously equipped reording studio (completely sound-proof, by the way, so that if you're making a CD it will be recorded in total peace and quiet; and if you're a visitor to the cottages you won't hear a thing other than the sounds of nature!  If you're interested to learn more about Greg's recording studios, visit or phone +353-(0)94-44648.

"Atlantic View"

"Atlantic View" is a modern, stone-clad property, with magnificent views across Cleggan Bay and out towards Inishbofin and the Atlantic. It is built and maintained to the highest standards by the well-known

couple, Johnny and

Theresa King.  As you can see, it features a ground-floor terrace right on the water's edge, accessed through French windows from the open-plan dining and sitting room.

The property is situated right beside Cleggan Harbour, and is a minute or two's walk away from shop, bars, restaurants and entertainment - as well as to the ferry to Inishbofin for those wishing to take a day-trip to the island, or to join Johnny on his modern sea-angling boat for a day's exciting fishing (with fresh fish to enjoy afterwards!). As you can see elsewhere on this website, the property is very conveniently placed for walking and sightseeing.

The house is beautifully laid out, furnished and maintained, and even has its own sauna off the downstairs bathroom!

Downstairs, there is the spacious eating and sitting room, a lovely kitchen with informal eating area as well as the adjacent dining table for somewhat more formal eating; and French doors to the furnished terrace. There's also a large bathroom which include a sauna.

Upstairs, there are three beautiful double bedrooms, one with en-suite shower room and toilet, another with its own balcony for enjoying the fabulous views. There's a further separate toilet upstairs, too.

The house has gas central heating throughout, and electricity paid by meter reading at the start and finish of your stay. Bed linen and towels incl. Other services include: cot/high chair as required; video; DVD/CD; microwave; washing machine; tumble-dryer; dishwasher; small garden with terrace, patio and furniture; parking; 'welcome' grocery pack provided. Though adjacent to the harbour, the house is set on a quiet small road, providing peace and a feeling of being away from it all.

NOTES:  No pets.  Three-night short stay possible, with any day start; and of course longer lets, too. Owners live nearby but will not disturb you while still being available in case of problems or queries. The owners expect that if you book for a given number of people, that will be the maximum number of people who will be staying!

For more information, click here to see an extensive gallery of photographs of "Atlantic View"; and contact Johnny or Theresa at +(353-0)95-44649 (landline) or +(353-0)86-832-8278, or email .

"Cleggan Cottage"

Like "Atlantic View" above, Cleggan Cottage is owned and rented out direct by Johnny and Theresa King; and it is right within Cleggan Village, only 2 minutes walk to the harbour and to shop, bars, restaurants...

This is a very well-known cottage, which was lived in for some time by the famous Irish poet, Richard Murphy.  In a really secluded part of Cleggan, it is a true get-away holiday cottage, set in its own grounds and very quiet.

Despite its large size, this is a one-bedroomed (double bed) cottage, with an extra single as a sofa-bed. It has a lovely, airy living room, and a beautifully laid out anf fitted-out kitchen and eating area (see above and below).

It also has its own garden, with a sheltered and secluded patio, accessed via large French doors from the back of the sitting room.

A single-storey stone cottage, its accommodation includes: large and airy living room with sofa-bed, as described above; spacious dining-room/kitchen area; double bedroom with en-suite bathroom with shower over bath, and toilet.

Services include: Storage heating and electricity by meter-reading at start and end of rental period; cot/high-chair as needed; washing machine; fridge-freezer; large enclosed garden and landscaped gardens; welcome grocery pack provided.

As with Atlantic Cottage above: No pets.  Three-night short stay possible, with any day start; and of course longer lets, too. Owners live nearby but will not disturb you while still being available in case of problems or queries. The owners expect that if you book for a given number of people, that will be the maximum number of people who will be staying!

For more information, click here to see an extensive gallery of photographs of "Cleggan Cottage"; and contact Johnny or Theresa at +(353-0)95-44649 (landline) or +(353-0)86-832-8278, or email

Joop and Fransje Aarts' Cottage - Barnarusheen:

In the small townland of Barnarusheen, on the shore of Aughrus Lake and with wonderful views across the lake and over the Atlantic towards Inishbofin, and with lovely views of fields with Connemara ponies, donkeys and other livestock, is the Irish home of Joop and Fransje Aarts - available for rent directly from Joop and Fransje.

Click HERE to learn more about the house (on - you can always find it in Dutch on too! It's property number 865984) and its surroundings and facilities, and to contact the owners (the website is in English, Dutch and German).

As you can see, the house really is picturesque and full of character.

Atlantic View House (Aughrus):

There is more than one "Atlantic View" for holiday rental on this site (you may already have seen details for the one at Cleggan Harbour, above); that's because there are so many locations with truly splendid views of the ocean and more, on the Aughrus Peninsula.

This ATLANTIC VIEW is "ATLANTIC VIEW HOUSE", situated in Aughrus, nearer to Claddaghduff, but on a small road leading from the road around Aughrus lake itself. The photo to the right shows the view just a few yards from the house (the house itself has similar and magnificent views, all round) - this photo looks towards Aughrus Point, with High and Friar Islands in the background, and the open Atlantic on either side.

Atlantic View House is a newly built, modern, comfortable house, with all the conveniences you would expect in a luxury house, including dishwasher, washing machine and dryer, microwave, widescreen TV and DVD player, radio/CD, etc. It has wheelchair access. Heating is by oil-fired CH throughout, but with a lovely multi-fuel burning stove in the spacious sitting room.

The house enjoys sunlight throughout the day, and it's always comfortable. The fittings are to a really high standard, as you can readily see in the photo to the right. The three large bedrooms each have panoramic views of the sea, and the main bedroom has a comfortable en-suite. This home, like those above, is for rent direct from the owners (who live on the Peninsula and can be available, if you need it, to answer any queries and help you out in any way - but otherwise will leave you to enjoy your holiday).

It's in  a lovely situation. As its own website says: "You can stroll through the fields to the seashore where you can sit in the early morning and see the sun rise over the Twelve Bens, or in the evening watch the sun set over High Island. Or perhaps you might prefer to just sit and enjoy some peaceful fishing off the rocks".  But why are we quoting from another website, when you can read all the details on that site? And see an extensive gallery of photos of the interior and exterior of the property, see the rates, etc, etc!

Click HERE to visit the website for "Atlantic View House"; or if you've read enough here, phone the owners at +353-(0)95-44671 or +353-(0)86-347-4268; or email them at

Courhoor Lake Cottage:

COURHOOR LAKE COTTAGE is a very attractive stone-faced cottage with a pleasant garden, overlooking Courhoor Lake.  It's conveniently - and beautifully - situated on the high road mid-way between the villages of Cleggan and Claddaghduff, in midst of the wild and lovely scenery you expect to see in the heart of Connemara. And of course its location means that not only can you

enjoy the scenery from the house itself (see left and below); it's also within easy access of the bars and restaurants on the peninsula, as well as all of the beaches, walks and other amenities.

The house itself is light and airy, with a traditional yet totally modern feel to it.

With four bedrooms (three double and one single, it can sleep up to seven people.

The bedrooms are comfortable and very nicely laid out and equipped, as you can see (right).

The tiled shower room has an electric shower along with wash basin and toilet.

There's a comfortable sitting room with TV and open fire; and the kitchen/ dining room is very well equipped, with an  electric fan oven and electric hob, coffee maker, etc.

Central heating comes from a Stanley twin oil-burning range - a lovely addition, as it provides such comfort along with that traditional 'cottage' feel of a cast-iron range (yet with the convenience of oil-burning). It's really cosy.

We could say more, but why do that, when you can view COURHOOR LAKE COTTAGE'S own website, with lots more photos and description, prices, directions, and contact details for enquiries or to make your booking.  Click HERE to see more - you won't be disappointed!  Or, if you prefer, just email the owner, Maureen Hannon, at

Two-Bed Cottage: Emlough-Rossadilisk

If you pass through Cleggan village, along the Aughrus Peninsula, for 3km (about 1.4 miles), you will come to the turning (to the right) down to the beautiful area of Rossadilisk, with its lovely, flower-filled meadows, its wide strand and sheltered beaches, and the tiny Rossadilisk which provides shelter to fishing currachs and other small boats.  Just at the top of that road, and facing it, is a two-bedroomed cottage offered for holiday rental.

It's a lovely cottage, surrounded by secluded gardens, and with a view over Rossadilisk towards the islands of Inishbofin and Inishark. It's in the same grounds as the main house belonging to the owners - but is well secluded from it so that you'll have all the privacy you want! - and this is useful in case you have any queries or needs.  You'll find that the owners are the loveliest of people (and we write this from our own direct experience), who will leave you to yourself as much as you need, but will also go out of their way to be pleasant or helpful or just make you feel welcome and at home!
In addition to Cleggan village, the cottage is an easy 10-15 minute walk to Claddaghduff, where you'll find Sweeney's shop and Post Office, and the Strand Bar, church, and of course the road leading down to Omey Strand and Omey Island.

The cottage has a comfortable feel to it.  It's heated throughout via a solid fuel stove, with the water heated by an immersion. And, unlike most cottage rentals, there are NO extras - electricity and turf are provided as part of the rental package, and you'll find there's as much fuel as you'll need, right outside the door. The owners provide all linen, plus towels.
As well as its comfy living space, the cottage has two bedrooms, one with a large double bed, and the other a single.  The bathroom has a bath, and although it doesn't have a separate shower, it has a shower attachment in the bath.  The cottage has TV, washing machine (no dryer, though the cottage has an outside clothes line, and a clothes horse - rack - for indoors use), microwave, and solid fuel stove which burns turf.  Outside, there's a sheltered/secluded seating area, with table and chairs. The owners prefer to have no pets. It's a good sign that many of the guests make repeat bookings year after year. Many of those who rent the cottage come from continental Europe (and elsewhere, of course); and the owners find that initial contact by email is the easiest way to communicate. So... email to obtain further information: is the address, and you'll receive a friendly, prompt response.
The gallery of photos below has a few additional photos, and will give you a further idea of this lovely cottage (we expect to add more photographs later, but these will give you a good idea of the cottage, inside and out). And we have included also some photos of the road to Rossadilisk, and of Rossadilisk itself - close to the cottage, and a lovely stroll, down to beautiful beaches and peaceful views.

Fisherman's Rest: Mourneen (Cleggan)

The small townland of Mourneen is located near to both Sellerna (see photo of Sellerna Beach to right) and the village of Cleggan, with its busy fishing harbour, bars and eateries.

Fisherman's Rest, then, is ideally situated: an easy stroll both the beach and to Cleggan village. You can park your car up and leave busy-ness behind, and enjoy your holidays in peace!

It's well named. The owners have an association with fishing, themselves, as you can see from the traditional currach (the typical Connemara small vessel used for fishing), parked up beside the cottage.

It's a three-bedroom cottage, and as you'll see from the photo gallery below, it has been newly renovated, with all the modern conveniences you could want; and spotless.

The cottage itself is located to the rear of the proprietors' home; Fionnuala is available to assist you with all aspects of your holiday, should you have questions or simply want to talk about the area, but they won't disturb you otherwise.

The cottage sleeps four to five people.  Downstairs you will find a modern and fully equipped kitchen (inc. washing machine and dishwasher) and a separate comfortable sitting-room, complete with a solid-fuel stove, Sky television and DVD player.

Also downstairs is a double bedroom, single bedroom and w.c./shower room.  Upstairs is another double bedroom and w.c./shower room.  The cottage is heated throughout by OFCH, with an immersion heater for hot water; so, although you may wish to enjoy the comfort of that solid fuel stove, you don't need to; the cottage is comfortably and conveniently centrally heated anyway.

- Proprietors provide towels, bed linen, electricity, heating at no extra cost.

- Shorter stays possible.

- Check-in possible on all days.

- Smoking outside please.

For more information, contact Fionnuala at:

Seaview Beach Apartment (Claddaghduff & Omey):

This apartment is perhaps best described as comfortable beach style accommodation.  It is also very stylishly furnished with comfortable modern furniture.  With two double bright bedrooms, it sleeps four people.

As you'll see from the photos, there is a breakfast bar, a fully equipped kitchen, and a comfortable combined living area - all with a beautiful view, out to Omey Strand and Island.  You'll find that the owner, Patricia Jean, has equipped the apartment with attention to detail.  There's ample parking beside the apartment.

The location is in walking distance to the strand and white sandy beaches that surround the enchanting Omey lsland and the surrounding area, with lots to do, as you'll see on this website.  These beaches are safe for children, and for adults there are beautiful walks among the wild flowers on the island.  The owner can organise local activities should you wish - including a 4x4-vehicle safari around Omey Island.  The apartment is on the edge of Claddaghduff, and so it's also near to a well-stocked shop, Post Office and bar, which serves lovely bar food in season.

A reference received in April 2015: "I've stayed in Sea View Beach (Apartment) and found it very clean and comfortable. Near all amenities, beautiful view from living room, and felt very homely. Owners most helpful and gracious."

Contact Patricia Jean for further details on the apartment (plus booking of local activities if you wish).  You can reach Patricia Jean by phone on +353-(0)87-391-9947, or by email to;  or visit their Facebook page ( to see more photos. And there are more below:

Four-bed house (Moyard - between Aughrus Peninsula and Letterfrack):

Four bedrooms - four bathrooms - sleeps 8/9.

On this website we normally only describe house which are located on the Peninsula.  However, this house is a lovely one, owned by friends of ours, and we know we can recommend both them and their rental house very highly.

This is a spacious stone-faced house with spectacular views of the Twelve Pins mountain range, Ballinakill Bay and the Atlantic Ocean from a large wooden deck at the rear of the house offering the ideal viewing spot.

The house has a big entrance hall with a large sitting room with a stone-face fireplace which is adjoined by the dining room.

The kitchen combines modernity with the traditional and has an Stanley range and an island with a 5-hob cooker with oven and grill. The kitchen is fully equipped with a microwave and dishwasher.

There is a utility room off the kitchen with fridge, small freezer, washing machine and drier. Adjoining the kitchen is a small sitting room/snug - ideal spot for the children to play or a quiet space to read. This room can also be converted into extra single bedroom giving 9 sleeping spaces. The house has Wifi access., TV and stereo, there is also plenty of games and jigsaws to make and books to read from fiction to local history. All of the bedrooms are en suite and the master bedroom leads onto the wooden deck.

The location of the house is superb; the views are to die for, looking out over lakes and towards the mountains.  The house is a short drive/walk from Ross beach and a short drive away from Clifden, Cleggan and from Letterfrack and the Connemara National Park and Kylemore Abbey.
