JASON DE LAPPE MEMORIAL WALK:
Saturday 8th July, 12.30pm

As everyone knows who knows anything about this area, the devastating and far-too-early death of Jason De Lappe rocked the community - and still does. Jason was loved by all and his memory will live on in people's hearts.

Help in making sure that Jason's death was not in vain - in doing all that can be done to prevent another such death!

To keep Jason's memory alive and to raise money and awareness of the ever-present risk of suicide, make a date of Saturday 8th July, at 12.30. And join the many who will be walking Omey Island together, starting from the Strand (assemble at the var park) at that time, and taking in a leisurely and companionable walk around Omey Island.

What could be better than a leisurely stroll around beautiful Omey Island, among great and friendly company? What better to soothe the soul and put life's troubles into perspective?

There will in fact be three lengths of walk, to suit all levels of fitness.  The short walk will be approximately to north-east end - perhaps to the cemetery or to the old graveyard at Cartoorbeg.  The medium walk, about an hour and a half, will take in the northern half of the island, returning via the road across Omey. The full walk will take in the full perimeter of Omey Island, and you should expect it to take around 3 hours. There will be stewards for each walk (front and rear), wearing high-vis jackets; and there will be a quantity of armbands available for walkers - in red and white, recognising Jason's love of the Arsenal Football Club. The walk itself is free of charge, though note that donation sheets are already available in shops and other outlets throughout the area (see below).

Refreshments in the form of 'finger food' provided afterwards to all walkers, by kind courtesy of Sweeney's Strand Bar, Claddaghduff.

Jason's birthday is  July 7th; so this walk on the 8th is timely.  The intention is that the walk in Jason's memory will be an annual event.

ALL ARE WELCOME

And watch out for donation cards, which will be in shops and outlets all around Connemara! All proceeds go to the work of SUICIDE PREVENTION, AWARENESS AND FAMILY SUPPORT, ELMTREE CENTRE, CLIFDEN.

No dogs. Under 16s should be accompanied by adults.

But why not follow this activity and learn more, by heading to the "Jason Delappe Birthday Remembrance Walk" Facebook page (simply head to Facebook and type in that FB name).

This event has been added to our site at the request of Jason's family and friends.
